Dr. Shahidrah Cowgill, LPC-S
I work with high-functioning adults who carry complex, layered trauma that continues to impact their nervous system, relationships, purpose and ability to move forward with clarity and confidence.
Many of the individuals I work with have spent years in therapy, yet still experience patterns such as chronic anxiety, hypervigilance, emotional shutdown, or relational distress. These patterns are often rooted in unresolved trauma, including childhood experiences, medical trauma, suicide loss, or prolonged exposure to high-conflict or antagonistic relationships.
My work is focused on helping clients move beyond insight and into resolution.
With over 18 years of clinical experience, I have worked across private healthcare, early childhood intervention, school systems, nonprofit organizations, and private practice. My work has included supporting children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families through complex emotional and relational challenges.
While my background is broad, my current focus is on complex trauma and advanced trauma recovery for adults seeking structured, high-level care.
I specialize in advanced trauma treatment using EMDR, including private, structured intensives designed for individuals seeking focused, contained trauma processing. This approach allows for deeper continuity, integration, and meaningful progress without extending the work over years of weekly sessions.
My clinical approach integrates trauma research, nervous system regulation, and moral resilience. I also recognize that healing is not only psychological, but deeply personal and, for many, spiritual. I believe that healing is deeply connected to restoration, truth, and the ability to walk in wholeness. My work supports clients in rebuilding their lives with clarity, integrity, and a renewed sense of purpose.
My education in psychology began at the University of Nebraska (UNL), where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, followed by a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University in Dallas, and later completed my doctoral degree in Psychology with a specialty in Disaster Relief and Trauma from the JFK School of Psychology and Social Sciences at National University. I am licensed by the State of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Approved Supervisor (#64254) and am a National Certified Counselor (#309334) as declared by the National Board for Certified Counselors.
