Counseling Intern

“A person’s most valuable asset is not a head full of knowledge but a heart full of love, an ear ready to listen, and a hand willing to help others.” – Anonymous

I believe we are to be helpers.  We can find a place and purpose to help others in many ways.  Daily life consists of challenges from small to big.  In those challenges, counselors can walk alongside each individual to be a listener, help widen perspectives, and be present.  My purpose is to help individuals navigate the challenges they are facing within a safe therapeutic relationship.

My Experience

My diverse background spans 14 years of serving others, I have had the privilege of working extensively with preschool teachers, leading and managing dynamic teams, and providing unwavering support to parents in the realm of early childhood education. My journey has also involved mentoring young adults to help them navigate life.  These experiences have fueled my passion for a career in mental health.

I have been married for thirty-three years and have 2 adult sons and four grandchildren.  I am passionate about providing exceptional care through creative and effective treatments for individuals, couples, and families dealing with life struggles.

I believe that our primary relationships can provide an essential foundation for feeling safe, being seen, and feeling secure.  On the other hand, individuals who have not experienced secure attachment may find relationships and life challenges overwhelming.  Furthermore, individuals under stress can experience thought processes that skew their perception regarding a range of life situations.  I am here to help you gain clarity and navigate through the thought process and decisions that you may need to make to move forward.

I love working with young adults, relationship issues, childhood trauma, parents, adolescents, married couples, and individuals struggling with anxiety and depression, grief and loss, church hurt, and ADHD.

My Education

I received a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M Commerce and am pursuing a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.  I am under the supervision of Shahidrah Cowgill, LPC-S, NCC.
